West-side story vs. Grease

I am going to compare the song America from West-side story to the song Beaty School Drop-out from the musical Grease.
Both songs start as if one is talking with some background music. After a little a background voices rise and the song then sarts to have a strong rhythm. And this process repeats a few times.
The song America is more rhythmic that Beauty School Drop-out.
The main instruments in the song America are: (from what I can hear)

  • Piano
  • Trombones
  • And to give rhythm the drums
Meanwhile, the main instrument in Beauty School Dop-out is the piano.

Maria as a singer

Maria, a shark, is a great singer and is a soprano. Here is another song that she sing with Anita.
(This is not the scene from the film but it is the same)

Maria's love story

Maria's love storyis complicated. She is in love with Tony from Jets. Due to the different beliefs of their  groups they shouldn't be together. They are together until the end, when Tony is killed by Chino. The two are married, but not officially, while they're getting married the sing the song 'One hand, one heart'.

Maria- Sharks

Maria is the leading female character in the 1961 movie West Side Story. She is part of the Sharks but falls in love with Tony from the Jets. Her brother is Bernardo.
